Options to create smile make-overs are:

Veneers  - wafer-thin, yet incredibly strong, restorations that can change the shape and
color of teeth.

Tooth whitening bleaches your teeth to add that extra sparkle and brighten your smile.

Porcelain Crowns restore damaged or decayed teeth to normal shape and size.

Dental implants is the best way to replace missing teeth.

Bridges are an alternative method to replacing missing teeth.

Metal Free White fillings are tooth-colored restorations that are most suitable for new
areas of small decay.

Does Tooth Whitening Work?
Yes, it works very well. Tooth whitening is the most common cosmetic service provided by dentists.  We’ve
been using at home tooth-whitening systems for many years. It is a relatively simple, inexpensive treatment
that is very reliable. Almost everyone we have treated has seen some improvement in the whiteness of his or
her teeth. Sometimes it’s a little; sometimes it’s a lot.
We have seen some dramatic improvements. It is difficult to predict
in advance, how much change an individual can expect, but
everyone can expect to see some improvement.

An oxidizing solution is placed on the teeth for a period of time,
which acts to break down the stain lying within the surface
layers of the tooth enamel.

Over the counter systems are not regulated, can contain
solutions of a low pH, meaning they are acidic, and can have
a bad reaction with fillings, crowns, or tooth enamel. They also
lack a customized tray, which holds the solution in close contact
with the teeth.

Professional at home tray systems use formulations with proven effectiveness and safety. The custom made
tray, which fits precisely over the teeth to be treated, is what makes this system work so well. The solution is
held to the teeth where it works without being diluted with saliva or running out into the mouth. The trays are
worn one or two hours daily for 2-3 weeks, or longer for particularly stubborn teeth. We have used this system
for many years with consistently good results.

Metal Free - White Tooth Fillings
If you are like most people, you probably think cavities are filled with or silver-mercury (yes, mercury!)
amalgam. While you probably realize such fillings are unattractive in your smile,
you might be surprised to learn they are hazardous to your teeth!
Mercury fillings react to temperature changes, expanding and
contracting within your delicate tooth. This movement can weaken the
tooth, causing it to break. It can also create a space between the tooth
surface and filling that allows bacteria to enter, causing decay.

Fortunately, there is the "best" alternative in existence today.  It lasts longer
is more durable - it virtually re-enamels your tooth.  The material is the
closest thing to your natural tooth.  Research show it lasts longer than
anything else in dentistry.

The restoration is made with the Cerec CAD-cam machine, which we have
invested in because we believe in offering our patients the best possible
treatment.

Veneers
Veneers are thin custom-made shells designed to cover the
front side of teeth. Made of tooth-colored materials, veneers
are used to treat spaces between teeth and teeth that are
chipped or worn, permanently stained, poorly shaped or slightly
crooked.

Veneers are routinely used to fix:

•        Teeth that are discolored – either because stains
from tetracycline or other drugs, excessive  fluoride or
other causes; or the presence of large resin fillings that
have discolored the tooth
•        Teeth that are worn down
•        Teeth that are chipped or broken
•        Teeth that are misaligned, uneven, or irregularly
shaped (for example, have craters or bulges in them)
•        Teeth with gaps between them (to close the space
between these teeth.)

Crowns (Caps)

Crowns protect and keep badly decayed or fractured teeth
from breaking down allowing you to retain the tooth.

The Problem:
•        Badly decayed teeth
•        Fractured teeth and/or cracked teeth
•        Need to protect and strengthen teeth

The Solution:
A crown (often called a cap) covers the tooth and restores
it to its original shape and size. Decay or damaged tooth
structure is removed and cleaned from the tooth.  The dentist takes
computer generated 3-D photos of the tooth's prep with the
Cerec 3-D Cad-Cam.  Those photos are then transmitted to the
milling machine where it creates your own personalized
custom precision fitting crown.
(In some cases the Cerec-in-office system cannot
be used and would require the traditional, prep of tooth, impression and lab fabrication)

Advantages:
Crowns are incredibly strong. This protects and strengthens the
remaining tooth structure. In the hands of a skilled
dentist, a crown will fit perfectly onto the prepared
surface of the tooth, reducing the size of the seam
between the crown and the tooth. This helps keep decay
from eventually occurring under the crown.

Crowns should be placed before the tooth is so broken
down that it may fracture. This can often help prevent
the expense of root canal therapy in the future. It can
also prevent the possibility that a fractured tooth may
need to be removed, requiring the expense of a bridge
or implant to replace the missing tooth.

Disadvantages:
Crowns are excellent restorations and have few
disadvantages. They are highly durable, but they may
eventually need to be re-cemented or replaced due to
normal wear.  Occasionally, a tooth may still need root
canal therapy after being crowned. However, this
indicates that the interior of the tooth was already
sick (infected) and would have eventually needed
root canal therapy anyway.

Alternatives:
In the event that a tooth is so decayed or fractured that it needs to be removed, the best alternatives to a
crown are implants or fixed bridges that replace the missing tooth.

With old technology, dental crowns always needed to be made with a metal foundation. Today, we can make
them out of pure porcelain, ceramic or aesthetic reinforced resins. There are still occasions on the back teeth
when the durability of a metal crown makes it the restoration of choice. But for crowns that show, wouldn't you
rather have one that looks as natural as possible

Bridge
A dental bridge is a false tooth, known as a pontic, which is fused between
two porcelain crowns to fill in the area left by a missing tooth. The two
crowns holding it in place are attached onto your teeth on each side of the
false tooth. This is known as a fixed bridge. This procedure is used to
replace one or more missing teeth. Fixed bridges cannot be taken out of
your mouth as you might do with removable partial dentures.

Bridges can reduce your risk of gum disease, help correct some bite issues
and even improve your speech. Bridges require your commitment to
serious oral hygiene, but will last as many ten years or more.

Implants
A dental implant is an artificial tooth root that a
periodontist places into your jaw to hold a
replacement tooth or bridge. Dental implants
are an ideal option for people in good general
oral health who have lost a tooth or teeth due
to periodontal disease, an injury, or some other
reason.

While high-tech in nature, dental implants are actually more tooth-
saving than traditional bridgework, since implants do not rely on
neighboring teeth for support.

Dental implants are so natural-looking and feeling, you may forget you
ever lost a tooth. You know that your confidence about your teeth affects
how you feel about yourself, both personally and professionally. Perhaps
you hide your smile because of spaces from missing teeth. Maybe your
dentures don't feel secure. Perhaps you have difficulty chewing. If you
are missing one or more teeth and would like to smile, speak and eat
again with comfort and confidence, there is good news! Dental implants
are teeth that can look and feel just like your own! Under proper
conditions, such as placement by a periodontist and diligent patient
maintenance, implants can last a lifetime. Long-term studies continue
to show improving success rates for implants.

Smile Make-over
A Smile Make-over is truly a work of art.  The term "smile make-over"
applies to the enhancement of a smile using a combination of
methods.   A client's eyes, lip line, coloring, gum tissue contouring
and face are all considered when a new smile is designed for you.

Our goal is to redesign your smile so that it fits you, is beautiful,
strong and natural looking.
